Introduction
The centre was fully operational on 1st November, 1987 under the
management of Department of Welfare, Youth and Sports, Ministry of
Culture and Sports.
On 15th March 1990, the administration and control of the centre was
transferred to the Prison Department, Ministry of Home Affairs. On 28th
September, 1995, another centre was set up known as Al-Islah
Intoxicating Substances Rehabilitation Centre. Both centres are
responsible for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts and
intoxication substances abusers respectively.
The word "Al-Islah" is an Arabic word meaning the
process of treatment and rehabilitation.
