Introduction
The Jerudong Prison accommodates all categories of prisoners
ranging from those on remand and sentence to a day jail to criminal
serving life imprisonment and death sentences. The Department also
runs Al-Islah Drug Rehabilitation Centre and Al-Islah Intoxicating
Substances Rehabilitation Centre.
Brief History
Jerudong Prison was established on 1st. March 1954 under the charge of
Assistant Resident. The guards were made up of Police Personnel. On
30th. December, 1959, a local officer was appointed as the Head of
Department.
Mission
To strive for excellence in the safe custody humane treatment and
successful rehabilitation of offenders and inmates so that they can
return to society as useful and law-abiding citizens.
Objectives
- Protecting society by detaining and guarding prisoners
- Helping and rehabilitating them to enable them to return to
society as useful citizens
- Providing suitable rehabilitative programme
